Smartbag Australia’s “Express Print” Service for Short-Run, Full-Colour Premium Bag Printing

Australia’s leading online custom bags supplier offers 20 per cent off on new online service for short-run, full-colour custom digital printing on white, brown, and premium gloss paper bags.

Smartbag Australia, a leading online supplier of wholesale bags in Sydney, has launched a new exclusive service on its website called Express Print, allowing customers to order their own personalized white, brown, and premium paper bags, all in one portal. Users simply have to choose their desired paper bag, build or upload their artwork, proof the design, and send to print. And for the entire month of January, all orders made through Express Print will get a 20 per cent discount.

Customers are presented with three choices when ordering bags through Express Print.

First, they can choose to design their own custom printed bags using the Smartbag-exclusive “Express Print Do IT Yourself Editor,” a browser-based design software with an entire suite of drag-and-drop layout tools, including text, shapes, images, graphics, and even custom QR codes among many others. The Do IT Yourself Editor is free to use, allowing prospective customers to preview what their bags look like before making a purchase decision.

Customers can also take the second option of uploading their own artwork in a PDF or EPS file according to Smartbag’s specifications. The company will take care of the rest and send customers a soft copy of their proposed design for proofing.

Finally, for customers who do not know where to start with their custom bags’ design, Smartbag also offers in-house design services for an all-in fee of $95 (exclusive of GST). Customers simply have to answer a brief questionnaire to give Smartbag’s designers an overview of what their bags will be used for and what they want them to look like.

“We designed Express Print primarily for small business owners who are looking for short-run, full-colour premium custom bags for retail, food and beverage, gift bags, and more” explains Andy Dier, Sales Manager at Smartbag. “Customers can order a minimum of 20 bags in their personalised paper of choice and design their bags according to their specs.”

Express Print is available for the following bag variants:

  • Premium Deluxe Paper Bags (Gloss, Matte, and Plain)
  • White Kraft Paper Bags
  • Brown Kraft Paper Bags

All bag variants are available in a wide range of sizes, ensuring that customers can find the ideal custom printed bags for their needs.

Why Non-Woven Bags and Paper Bags are Better than Single-use Plastics

Why Non-Woven Bags and Paper Bags are Better than Single-use Plastics

While plastic bags are convenient for many things in our lives, they take a heavy toll on the environment, what with your average single-use plastic bag taking anywhere between 15 to 1000 years to decompose.

Of course, you might think, “Well, it’s just one plastic bag, how bad can it be?”

And you certainly wouldn’t be alone. Studies in environmental psychology show that as individuals, we tend to think about our individual impact on the environment. But because there are billions of us on this planet using plastic bags, that means that there are at least a billion of these things that go to waste and pile up in landfills and oceans.

The Problem of Disposable Plastics in Australia

According to the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) lightweight plastic shopping bags made up 1.6 per cent of litter based on number of items. In 2002, it was estimated that 50 to 80 million plastic bags ended up as litter every year. Of that number, only 10 to 20 million are successfully retrieved through clean-up activities—the rest end up in the environment.

The solution is simple: replace plastic bags with more sustainable alternatives like paper bags or non-woven bags.

In Defence of Paper Bags

While it’s true that the manufacturing of paper products used to take a heavy toll on the world’s forests, the practice of sourcing pulp—the material used to make paper—in a more sustainable manner has helped to solve this problem.

According to Two Sides Australia, the Australian paper industry depends on sustainable forests as a reliable supply of wood fibre. In fact, planted forests in Australia have grown to two million hectares over the last two decades, due largely to growing awareness of sustainable paper.

In other words, paper bags are an environmentally friendlier alternative to single-use plastics. And don’t forget, paper bags are 100 per cent recyclable.

What Are Non-Woven Bags?

Non-woven polypropylene bags, also known as eco-bags or NWPP bags, are made of recyclable plastic materials, hence their designation as an eco-friendly product. They can be designed to have a ‘woven’ or fabric-like appearance by pressing a cross-thatched pattern onto the material.

And because of its durability and flexibility, won-woven polypropylene is a popular choice among manufacturers of reusable shopping bags. Eco bags are strong, easy to customise, and can be reused over and over again, which means fewer single-use plastics end up in landfills.

At Smartbag, we carry a wide range of eco-bags and paper packaging solutions. To learn more about our brown and white bags, as well as our reusable shopping bags, get in touch with the Smartbag team on our Contact Page.

How Green is your Eco bag?

How Green is your Eco bag?

Green bags, enviro bags, eco bags, shopping bags, even Coles or Woolies bags.  We recognise all the alternative names, but how ‘environmentally friendly’ are the non woven promotional bags that we are used to seeing at trade shows and shopping centres across Australia? So what is NWPP or eco bag material

NWPP (non-woven polypropylene) is a thermoplastic polymer – a type of plastic that can be melted down and recycled into such things as garden stakes, garden furniture and flower pots.

It is called non-woven due to the thatched pattern on the material that is stamped on to make it look woven.

Whilst these bags are made from a thermoplastic polymer, there is substantial proof that it’s not just another plastic. It is recyclable and leaves a smaller ecological footprint than many other plastics.

The Greenpeace pyramid of plastics

The Greenpeace pyramid of plastics ranks plastics into four groups according to their hazardous characteristics.

PVC, the most problematic and polluting plastic, is at the top of the pyramid at number one, while biobased plastics, the least polluting are number four at the pyramid’s base. Polypropylene (PP) is just above biobased plastics at number three along with PET (the material used to make recyclable plastic bottles).

Greenpeace pyramid of plastics

  1. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other halogenated plastics
  2. Polyurethane (PU), Polystyrene (PS), Acrylonitrile- butadiene-styrene (ABS), Polycarbonate (PC)
  3. Polyethylene-terephthalate (PET), Polyolefins (PE, PP, NWPP etc.)
  4. Biobased plastics

Like PET, it is up to us to make sure the bags are disposed of in a way that will see them recycled. This means on your next supermarket shop, take along your old bags and put them in the recycle bin that is usually prominently placed near the entrance.

NWPP vs Calico (cotton)

People often request calico bags as they are seen as the original ‘enviro’ bag. Interestingly, Zero Waste South Australia produced a report stating that polypropylene has lower greenhouse gas impact and energy use in manufacture than either paper or calico (including production of raw materials).

Calico (cotton) also uses vast amounts of water and pesticide. It is considered the world’s dirtiest crop due to its heavy use of pesticides. It is not recommended when compared to the NWPP bag.

Best bang for your buck

For business owners wanting value for money and brand exposure, non-woven polypropylene is strongly recommended. It is strong, well priced, can be made to any colour, and print options are vibrant and unlimited.

For tote/ carry bags, drawstring sports bag, heavy duty shopping bags, or all purpose bags that fit your gym shoes, consider putting your brand or logo on some and get them walking around the country promoting your business.

They are generally available for around $1 a bag and can’t be beaten for the price.

8 Social Media Hacks For Your Custom Packaging

8 Social Media Hacks For Your Custom Packaging

Social media has seen an incredible boom in usage over the last few years, (NO KIDDING!) with social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter dominating a substantial portion of our everyday online communications.

It’s not so much that practically everyone from all walks of life is on some kind of social media platform, but more about the depth of social media’s integration into our lives, reaching a level never seen before. And it will only continue to influence our lives more each day. Social media interactions have now become so intrinsically a part of day-to-day life, that it now seems completely normal and even essential to our lives.

In the context of marketing, many believe the rise of social media has effectively displaced many traditional marketing tactics. While there’s certainly some truth to this belief, traditional marketing and social media marketing (SMM) need not be mutually exclusive, not when there are many ways to make them feed off another.

Take for example, custom packaging materials, which offer several opportunities for bridging the gap between your offline and online marketing campaigns. Below are a few ideas to play around with.

1.      #Hashtag Your Package

One of your many new tools is the hashtag. Most notably used by Twitter for identifying and cataloguing tweets on specific topics, plenty other social media platforms followed suit, and have adopted the criss-cross symbol for similar purposes.

Coca Cola’s use of the hashtag is perhaps one of the most memorable of them all, what with the #ShareACoke hashtag quickly becoming a top trend worldwide – proving the #success of the social media gimmick.

Place a considerably-sized hashtag related to your product or brand on the face of your packaging. Make it creative, hip, and post-worthy (something we’ll get more into later). This will, most importantly, encourage your customers to post about your product online, raising awareness for it, and encouraging others to join in.

Be sure to make your brand’s social media page the most prevalent user of the hashtag, and these will practically indirectly “link” to your page.

2.      Place a QR Code

The QR code is a type of matrix barcode that can contain any type of electronic message, be it a URL, plain text, direct link, virtual purchase, and so on. These can come in the basic 1:1 form, or even stylized to taste as Snapchat and Messenger have done.

Having a QR code on your product package can serve a whole multitude of purposes. The simplest and most apparent among these is linking to your brand page (be it on social media or a standalone website). Most people are too lazy to type a whole URL to access a page and even if they aren’t, a QR code is just so much simpler and more inviting. You could also use a QR code for a referral system, banking on the symbol and its current users to extend your reach.

3.      Link to Your Product Pages

Specifically, your Facebook page. Using a direct URL may still be more advisable than a QR code given that not everyone knows how to scan one – or even what it is. Place links to your brand’s social media pages on your product packaging for quick reference – both for your customer and people they may want to share with.

4.      Make it Post-worthy

Social media is good for… well… socializing. That means people sharing with people – a vast resource with an even more vast potential for putting your brand out there. If you’ve ever witnessed anything go viral, you’d know that the now-popular material only became so because of its appeal to social media users.

Additionally, no matter how good something tastes, sounds, smells or feels to the touch – if it doesn’t look good, it’s just not going online.

Give your product packaging an appealing, striking, or witty design. Make your customers want to post about it and show it to their friends. Make them want to endorse your products for you, and you’ll make an advertising agent out of everyone who buys your product. This tactic, I might add, can only be made possible by custom product packaging.

5.      Personalized Packaging

One way to make your product package post-worthy is to offer personalization options. If there’s anything that Coke has taught us, it’s that people love posting about themselves. The sheer success of the #ShareACoke campaign proves that personalized packaging has a permanent place in strategy. Offer to personalize your product package – as in a custom shopping bag, or what not – with a name or statement, and expect your brand’s social media presence to soar.

6.      Collect Them All

Another tactic to get your product package on social media feeds is to gamify it—a.k.a make it collectible. You can do this by offering packaging in a variety of designs that click together. Using a bunch of identical shopping bags distinguished only by colour scheme could work.

7.      Vox Populi

An extension of previous tactics would be calling for a vote, with each of your product packages serving as a “ballot” of sorts. This tactic has proven to be extremely lucrative, with AKB48 – a 100-member Japanese girl group – employing a voting system through their physical records that lead to a revenue of US$226 million from Japan sales alone.

To do this, create a set of options for a customer to choose among, letting specific product packages represent the option they’ll be voting for. Every purchase of that particular package would be equivalent to one vote. Customers may be proud of their vote, or may want to call on others to cast their votes as well, leading them to post about your product package, the product itself, and your brand online. Employing previous tactics, you should associate each vote option with a hashtag.

Bank on the division and social groups that will necessarily form from the “election” by creating sub-communities that may want to discuss and express amongst themselves. You could create separate social media pages catering specifically to a voter group that links back to the original brand page.

What’s great is that none of these tactics have to be used in isolation. In fact, used together, they can form a formidable marketing strategy to boost your brand to all-new heights. If anything, just be sure to employ the single greatest take-away from this list – make it post-worthy.

5 Award Winning Retail Shop Designs

5 Award Winning Retail Shop Designs

Designing a retail store requires innovation, a knowledge of human psychology, and a whole lot of creativity. In this article, we list down 5 examples of truly innovative retail shop designs that you might want to emulate or, at least, take some ideas and incorporate into your retail designs.

Kindo Children’s Boutique

Stepping into this Monterrey, Mexico-based children’s boutique, you will find yourself and your kids treated to a quirky buy fun interior space. The entire store is designed using the concepts of a didactic bead maze. Children get to learn all about the different geometric shapes and forms, thanks to the innovative store design by Anagrama.

Okomeya Rice Store – Japan

The Japanese have always been distinctive with their designs and ideas, and this shows in their take on minimalist design as seen on Okomeya Rice Store. These innovators transformed the first floor of a timber building in Tokyo into a well-lit yet neatly arranged rice store. The store is operated by Japanese company OWAN, and is part of a thrust to rejuvenate the district where the store is located.

FEIT Shoe Store – New York

The result is an almost hypnotic design, with patterns that give the appearance of texture. Props to designer Jordan Maisie.

Another example of an innovative retail store interior design can be found in FEIT’s newly opened West Village outlet in New York. When you enter, you will find unique shelves made from individual planks of wood arranged on top of each with small gap in between. They look like columns of horizontal window blinds, and in the middle of each column are FEIT’s products.

Miu Miu – Aoyama District, Tokyo, Japan

Herzog and De Meuron teamed up with Italy-based shoemaker Miu Miu to revamp the retailer’s Aoyama District outlet in Tokyo, Japan. The result is an interior design concept that ups the ante in giving customers space for movement and relaxation. The design maximizes space, accessibility of the products, and comfort. Add in an excellent color scheme, and this is one shoe shop you will want to visit for ambience alone.

Book Center in Trieste, Italy

SoNo Architects in Italy certainly gave competitors a run for their money when it unveiled the design for the Slovenian Book Center in Trieste.  SoNo’s interior designers transformed a 177-square meter space into a masterpiece, featuring seemingly endless lines of bookshelves that hug the walls, leaving a huge space for reading and sitting. The interior design combines with a historical façade that looks straight out of the Renaissance, thus setting the mood for reading and learning.

Of course, interior design is not the only thing that matters when designing a shop or any living space. For retailers, they can combine good interior design with excellent marketing techniques like free giveaways. Shopping bags are great viral marketing tools to give to your customers—contact Smartbag to learn how you can use them to your advantage.

4 Ways Custom Shopping Bags Will Benefit Your Bottom Line

4 Ways Custom Shopping Bags Will Benefit Your Bottom Line

As 2016 comes to a close, now is the perfect time to put out all the stops and ensure you hit your revenue goals by the end of Q4. If your profits are growing but not at the speed you want, you may have considered a number of strategies to get into the black, such as expanding online, changing your store hours, or holding new promotions.

While these strategies have been known to work, have you considered personalised packaging solutions in the form of custom printedshopping bags? While not exactly new, custom shopping bags are a tried and tested solution for improving your bottom line. And with the holidays fast approaching, they can be a timely investment. Below are a few of their benefits.

1.       Custom Shopping Bags Help to Build Brand Loyalty

2003 marketing study in Bangkok found that “…packaging reminds consumers of the quality of their purchase, and thus plays a role in satisfaction. Packaging also reminds consumers of their past purchases, so influences (sic) brand loyalty.”

Shopping bags designed with your brand’s logo and messages can serve as powerful advertising tools with incredible mileage. Imagine how each person that buys something from your store carries one as they return to their homes, and think of how many people see that branded bag along the way. Moreover, you can extend your bags’ mileage by producing them to be reusable.

Creating custom shopping bags boils down to thoughtful and clever design. Be sure to include your business logo, your brand colours, and your slogan. If possible, add your contact numbers and links to your social media channels.

Bottom line? Your shopping bags shouldn’t be just shopping bags. Think of them as walking billboards for building awareness and word of mouth marketing.

2.       Custom Shopping Bags Can Be Shareable

A reusable shopping bag is a blank canvas just waiting to be used as a visual marketing tool. According to Dotcom Distribution’s 2013 eCommerce Packaging Survey, “4 in 10 consumers would share a picture of an online order via social media if it came in a unique, branded or gift-like box, and 83 percent of those consumers would do so on Facebook.”

So clearly, product packaging can be a powerful factor for creating a solid first impression, with a practically limitless potential for online virality. With numbers like that, you’d be foolish not to be a little more thoughtful with how your design your shopping bags and other packaging materials.

Almost all retailers recognize the importance of making their shopping bags their own, which is why it’s rare for a retailer not to have some kind of personalised shopping bag for customers. Your job is to make sure you offer something creative and unique whether it’s in the choice of colour or material, you want your customers to feel excited when they shop at your store.

And if your brand-centric shopping bags truly stand out, this excitement just might spread across your customers’ own circle of followers.

3.       Custom Shopping Bags Help Establish Credibility

In the retail sector, image can make or break customer loyalty. If you want people to take your company seriously, offering flimsy plastic shopping bags won’t help your case. Taking the cheapest packaging option might be the economical choice, but it also gives the subliminal message (and a deadly one at that) that you’re cheap and that you don’t care about the quality of your product. Of course, this may not be true at all, but you never know how people make their conclusions based on what they see.

Personalised shopping bags help give your brand a more upscale image, which in turn helps to establish your credibility—a crucial factor if your business is relatively new. If you want to build trust with your customers, you need to show that you’re worth trusting. In other words, you need to look the part, whether it’s by fixing up your store premises, offering a wide product catalogue, or by ensuring your packaging reflects your brand’s desired image.

4.       Custom Shopping Bags Can Capture Repeat Customers

As mentioned earlier, the potential mileage you can get from custom shopping bags can make them worth their weight in gold. Besides having the power to attract new customers whenever your shopping bags are spotted on the street, custom shopping bags made from durable materials like polypropylene or fabric are bound to get reused in some way, expanding their marketing value even further.

And if you integrate your social media marketing (SMM) campaign into your custom packaging, you open the door to the possibility of your bags being seen on social media—provided that their designs are unique enough to be shareworthy, of course.

One way to make your shopping bags “work for you” and capture repeat customers is to offer an incentive program that gives discounts or some other special reward around your packaging. Not only will this encourage customers to reuse your shopping bags, it could also translate into multiple repeat purchases.

For example, you could offer a limited-time 10 percent discount to shoppers who reuse your shopping bags on their purchase. Alternatively, you could encourage shoppers to bring in at least 5 of your reusable shopping bags to qualify for a similar discount.

Not only will this help build brand loyalty, it also shows your community that you care about reducing your environmental footprint.

In Summary

Of course, these are just 4 of the more obvious benefits you can get from using custom shopping bags. Bottom line? Investing in personalised shopping bags is as much a marketing decision as it is a branding one. Perhaps the one catch with buying custom shopping bags is that it doesn’t always come cheap. Fortunately, there are ways to save on your investment, one of which is to order your bags in bulk and have them shipped to you directly.

Watch Out for These 5 Recycling and Waste Management Trends

Watch Out for These 5 Recycling and Waste Management Trends

Watch Out for These 5 Recycling and Waste Management Trends in 2018

There’s no doubt that efforts towards recycling waste are picking up momentum. In 2018, we saw a surge of investments into putting trash to good use, or at the very least, manage its disposal in a smarter manner, especially in Australia. Just a few years ago, this waste would have been left rot in landfills or, worse, thrown into the sea.

With a new year upon us, what can we see and expect in the recycling and waste management industry in 2019? Read on and find out.

  1. Automation

The modern practice of recycling garbage has been around for decades, making it high time for certain waste management techniques and practices to evolve thanks to the rise of automation technology. We expect to see continued investment in technologies that automate several processes involved in recycling waste.

  • Food Waste Will Receive More Attention This Year

Much of the focus in recycling has, for good reason, been directed at reducing waste materials like plastics, which have always been difficult recycle. In fact, we saw great strides in the field of research surrounding biodegradable and so-called eco-friendly plastic.

In 2018, however, the recycling industry will finally turn its attention to another alarming and completely unnecessary source of waste—food.

The good news is that governments all over the world have already taken action. France has already banned supermarkets from throwing away food waste. Organizations in Australia have also teamed up in a two-pronged waste management campaign that lets people trade in their unused electronic devices in exchange for food coupons that will feed homeless families using food rescued from households and restaurants.

  • Landfills Will be Slowly Phased Out

Ever felt bothered by the presence of smelly and filthy landfills? The good news is that organizations around the world are finally taking action to phase out this outdated model of waste management. Last year, the International Solid Waste Association began setting examples of how to close landfills sustainably.  Several dumpsites around the world have already been shut down as a result of this initiative, and the ISWA has made it clear that it will continue doing so in 2018.

  • More Focus Will Be Placed on Addressing Aquatic Waste

The term “aquatic waste” here does not refer to waste products produced by the creatures that live beneath the world’s oceans. It’s the trash people have thrown in the waters surrounding the cities.

Again, the ISWA is taking the lead by funding a worldwide task force charged with addressing the huge amount of garbage floating around our oceans and killing marine wildlife by the thousands every day.

  • Recycling Will Find Its Way to More Residences

If you found it difficult to begin recycling your own trash at home, then you need not fret. More and more supermarkets and establishments are encouraging the use of recycling bags that let people segregate their trash more effectively. If you’ve always found it difficult to separate the recyclables from the trash, the use of these recycling bags will simplify this process for you considerably.

We expect 2018 to be an exciting year, not just for business, but also for the recycling industry and the world in general. If your business would like to embrace this wave of eco-friendliness and sustainability, our custom packaging solutions are just what you need. Smartbag provides a wide range of white and brown Kraft paper bags, reusable fabric bags, and reusable shopping bags.

Use These 3 Simple Strategies to Reduce Your E-Waste

Use These 3 Simple Strategies to Reduce Your E-Waste

Admit it—we’re all semi-dependent on electronic gadgets these. It’s difficult to imagine how life would be without our smartphones, for instance. Advances in technology have made mobile devices more integrated into our daily lives; aside from sending messages and making calls, our phones are cameras, gaming devices, and music devices, all in one.

This has created a very lucrative market for manufacturers like Samsung, Apple, Sony and many other brands, all of whom offer a rich assortment of consumer devices for virtually any kind of budget, fuelling the incredible demand for these devices.

Unfortunately, this revolution has its own dark side—electronic waste. With technology improving faster than before, this has resulted in an accumulation of unused electronic devices. People are discarding and replacing their electronic devices faster than they can dispose of the old ones.

Of course, there are ways to deal with electronic waste and keep it to a minimum. Follow these tips to control your production of e-waste.

Wait Until the Device is Phased Out Before You Upgrade

It’s quite tempting to upgrade to the new model next year, even though your previous model is still working. Unless you got a lot of relatives and friends who’d appreciate “hand-me-down” devices, especially smartphones, then why not wait until the device loses all support from the manufacturer before you upgrade?

In the case of smartphones, new models mean new operating systems. However, you’d do well to know that each version of the operating system can be used by older models that have been released at most 5 years before. You can update your software and still enjoy the new features, minus the new ones that are marketed by each recent upgrade.

The only time to upgrade to a new phone, so to speak, is when your device is no longer supported by the new mobile operating system.

Take Care of Your Gadgets

In addition to upgrades, one more reason why people tend to discard their electronic devices is quickly is “wear and tear.” Unfortunately, while stress tests have shown that such devices are designed to last long, abusing these contraptions and not maintaining them well causes them to break down faster than their rated life expectancy.

So, people go ahead and buy new ones. However, the now broken devices are kept and not recycled, thus contributing to the amount of electronic waste accumulating all across the globe.

Take better care of your gadgets and they’ll last a lot longer. Along the way, you do the environment a favor.

Recycle

Finally, if your devices have reached the end of their lives, it’s high time now to donate your electronic devices instead of letting them sit down and gather dust. While the battery and the main processing unit may not be working, there are parts inside that can be recycled and used to make new devices.

Doing so will reduce the need for mining the raw materials that will be used to produce those components that power the more recent versions of your defunct gadgets.

4 Must-Follow Rules of Effective Product Packaging

4 Must-Follow Rules of Effective Product Packaging

You’ve done your marketing down to the dot. You’ve handed out flyers. You’ve sponsored Facebook ads. You’ve done everything to get your product in front of your target market. But have you made sure your product packaging helps to seal the deal?

Many entrepreneurs tend to underestimate the value of product packaging, thinking that customers ultimately care about the product, not the packaging it comes in. But product packaging is often called the last advertisement your customers will see. In other words, packaging is the last step in the marketing process, which means it can make or break your entire marketing campaign.

To set up your products for success, be sure to follow these four rules of effective product packaging.

Take Advantage of Cusps

You may not notice this as a consumer because it’s subconsciously planted into your mind, but cusps are a great visual cue that you can use in your product managing. Cusps are best described as sharp and accented curves that used to place strong emphasis on the product.

These icons serve to trigger certain emotional responses from the viewer. These emotions range from fear to strong caution: basically, our “fight or flight” instinct. In this case, however, it’s “look away or buy.”

Less is More

While entrepreneurs are often advised to find ways to “stand out,” that doesn’t mean you have to go all out and dazzle customers with “busy” package designs. What usually happens is that you get too preoccupied coming up with a visually interesting design that you forget the point of the product packaging—to convince customers to buy your product.

So, simplicity is, without doubt, still a thing of beauty even in today’s advanced visual landscape.

Make the Message Memorable to Anybody

Here’s a good way to test how easy it is to recall your product package.

Get a group of children—around 5 to 7 years of age—to look at one of your advertising materials. It can be a video, a poster, or one of your digital ads—just make sure it’s actually child-friendly. Next, tell the children to go to the store or supermarket and look for the product. If they can find it with no problem, you know you have a memorable product package.

A product package that a kid can recall should likewise be memorable to adults. The easier it is to read the name, logo, and message on your product package, the more likely it will stay top of mind with your target audience.

This brings us to the next rule…

Be Iconic

Be simple, but be iconic.

Create something that resonates with your customers. Take cues from Coca-Cola, Google with its Android logo, and Apple’s partially-eaten apple logo. These are all simple icons, but they have been very effective at ingraining themselves into the minds of the market.

Work closely with your graphic design team to come up with a design and the colour scheme that you and your designers think will be very effective at capturing the hearts and minds of your customers.

Expect These 5 Trends to Make Waves in the World of Product Packaging

Expect These 5 Trends to Make Waves in the World of Product Packaging

Trends come and go—that’s a fact.

And when it comes to product packaging and branding, some trends tend to stick around. As we’re now in the middle of 2019, now’s as good a time as any to look at the trends expected to make waves in the world of product packaging.

  1. Sustainable packaging

Being more environment-friendly is on everyone’s to-do list—businesses included. So, it was only really a matter of time until retailers thought of ways to make their product packaging greener. We’ve already seen retailers transition to sustainable packaging last year, and we expect it to become a more prevalent practice in 2018, with companies using recyclable materials to reduce their carbon footprint and minimize the amount of plastic that makes it to the world’s landfills and water systems

  • Minimalist Designs

Say goodbye to cluttered graphic designs in product packaging. This is the year for minimalists—a trend that also extends to product packaging. We live in a fast-paced world where people can’t be bothered to read unnecessary product information. And so, you can expect to see brands simplify their packaging, conveying the most important information in a way that’s quick and easy for customers to understand.

  • Large Text

The transition to minimalist graphic design in product packaging will be accompanied by larger and bolder fonts. Again, the goal is the same: to save space and convey the message in a quick and concise manner. The attention span of the average consumer, combined with an increasing aversion to advertising, means that excessive product information will only turn your customers off. The fewer words you use to send a message, the better. And that often requires doing it with large, eye-catching text.

  • Experimental Designs

Over the last few months, we’ve seen more and more companies play around with unusual product packaging, especially in the food industry. This is the year to embrace experimental and revolutionary product packaging designs.

We’re not saying that you should be unusual just for the sake of unusual. After all, if you’re going to experiment with your product packaging, whatever design you come up with should still make sense and not confuse the consumer.

  • Feminine Aesthetic

Finally, expect a more feminine aesthetic to dominate product shelves in supermarkets and department stores. Alongside the minimalist designs that are expected to trend in the retail sector in 2018, soft edges and cool colours that are usually associated with women are going to make their presence felt.

Advertise Your Business, Save The Environment and Pay Less To Do It!

It’s common practice to protect each car you work on by using car seat covers – paper and plastic sheeting to protect the vehicle. Now there is a cost effective, eco-friendly alternative that not only looks better, it also promotes your business in a unique, original and effective way. Customers like to know their car is being looked after in every way when they take their car in for service or repairs. Reusable NWPP (non woven polypropylene) car seat protectors, floor mats, steering wheel covers and multi lever covers will not only allay their concerns, but upgrade your protective items to longer lasting, reusable and recyclable options. Displaying your business name, logo and corporate colours will ensure your company is portrayed as one which cares for each and every car, for every customer that comes through the door. At the same time this will ensure you are doing your bit to reduce landfill and the impact your business has on the environment. The key is that these products are reusable and portray an image of quality – not one of disposability. So in the long run costs to your business are reduced and exposure is increased. Brightly coloured reusable seat protectors and floor mats displaying your business name might not be visible when in use, but they can be given their own hanging space on a nearby wall which is visible from the road, or by customers who visit your premises. This not only saves space but again gets your message out in a completely unique and original way. Reusable car seat protectors can be designed to match the floor mats. NWPP -the material they are made from – has proven to be a magnificent medium on which to print. Reusable protectors will not only protect the car seats, they will also provide you with an eye catching and brilliant branding opportunity. They may cost a little more initially, but you will save money over a short period of time, as well as increasing your business exposure and saving on landfill. Even better, at the end of their life they are all recyclable. What a great message to send to the community. The branded guard and fender cover set will complete your car protection solution, protecting the vehicle from scratching and scuffing as the mechanic or technician works on the motor. As your logo or message is again positioned prominently on the covers, any passers by will not only get a glimpse of the care taken, but of your logo as well. All businesses need to save money, increase exposure and marketing, convey that they care and do their bit for the environment. It’s a rare opportunity when you are able to do all of this and save money! Simple ideas are usually the best, and when used properly these products are a must have for anyone in the automotive industry. Just ask the mechanics and technicians that use these products already and you will soon find there is no turning back.
